We have application using PTT Framework to record audio messages when app is backgrounded. Right now we are using AVAudioRecorder for that purpose. And problem is one specific user has frequent issue - recorded audio contains only silence.
I've checked almost everything I can imagine but didn't find any possible reason of issue.
Conditions:
AVAudioRecorder uses following configuration:
[
AVEncoderAudioQualityKey: AVAudioQuality.low.rawValue,
AVFormatIDKey : kAudioFormatMPEG4AAC,
AVNumberOfChannelsKey: 1,
AVSampleRateKey: 16000.0
]
App waits both didBeginTransmitting and didActivate audioSession from PTChannelManager (audio session has playback category at that moment)
App does AVAudioSession category change to playAndRecord
App gets routeChangeNotification with categoryChange and category = playAndRecord
There is no any interruption notifications from AVAudioSession during recording
There is no any error notification from AVAudioRecorder
Any idea what exactly I do wrong? Is there anything else I should check?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. it looks like recording audio with AudioUnit has the same issue, but let's exclude it from question atm for simplicity.

Hi,
I just started to develop audio unit hosting support in my application.
Offline rendering seems to work except that I hear no output, but why?
I suspect with the player goes something wrong.
I connect to CoreAudio in a different location in the code.
Here are some error messages I faced so far:

I am trying to debug the AAX version of my plugin (MIDI effect) on Pro Tools, but I am getting the following error (Mac console) when attempting to load it:
dlsym cannot find symbol g_dwILResult in CFBundle etc..
I used Xcode 16.4 to build the plugin.
Has anybody come across the same or a similar message?

Hello! I'm use AVFoundation for preview video and audio from selected device, and I try use AVAudioEngine for preview audio in real-time, but I can't or I don't understand how select input device? I can hear only my microphone in real-time
So far, I'm using AVCaptureAudioPreviewOutput for in real-time hear audio, but I think has delay.
On iOS works easy with AVAudioEngine, but on macOS bruh...

I’m working with the Push-to-Talk (PTT) framework and observing a consistent delay when starting audio capture.
Scenario:
A PTT call is already active
The AVAudioSession is fully configured
I request beginTransmission on the PTT channel
I start my Audio Unit for recording (AudioOutputUnitStart)
Observed behavior:
AudioOutputUnitStart takes ~500 ms
This happens whether I start the Audio Unit:
after didBeginTransmission, or
after AVAudioSession didActivate
Comparison:
Using the same Audio Unit, same format, and same configuration
Without the PTT framework, AudioOutputUnitStart takes ~200 ms
Additional notes:
I am not modifying or reconfiguring AVAudioSession when requesting beginTransmission
The audio session is already set up when the PTT call starts
There are no interruptions or route changes at the time of starting the Audio Unit
Impact:
This extra latency is significant for Push-to-Talk use cases where fast transmit
start is critical.
Bug Report: ScreenCaptureKit System Audio Capture Crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS
Summary
When using ScreenCaptureKit to capture system audio for extended periods, the application crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS in Swift's error handling runtime. The crash occurs in swift_getErrorValue when trying to process an error from the SCStream delegate method didStopWithError. This appears to be a framework-level issue in ScreenCaptureKit or its underlying ReplayKit implementation.
Environment
macOS Sonoma 14.6.1
Swift 5.8
ScreenCaptureKit framework
Detailed Description
Our application captures system audio using ScreenCaptureKit's audio capture capabilities. After successfully capturing for several minutes (typically after 3-4 segments of 60-second recordings), the application crashes with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error. The crash happens when the Swift runtime attempts to process an error in the SCStreamDelegate.stream(_:didStopWithError:) method.
The crash consistently occurs in swift_getErrorValue when attempting to access the class of what appears to be a null object. This suggests that the error being passed from the system framework to our delegate method is malformed or contains invalid memory.
Steps to Reproduce
Create an SCStream with audio capture enabled
Add audio output to the stream
Start capture and write audio data to disk
Allow the capture to run for several minutes (3-5 minutes typically triggers the issue)
The app will crash with EXC_BAD_ACCESS in swift_getErrorValue
Code Sample
func stream(_ stream: SCStream, didStopWithError error: Error) {
print("Stream stopped with error: \(error)") // Crash occurs before this line executes
}
func stream(_ stream: SCStream, didOutputSampleBuffer sampleBuffer: CMSampleBuffer, of type: SCStreamOutputType) {
guard type == .audio, sampleBuffer.isValid else { return }
// Process audio data...
}
Expected Behavior
The error should be properly propagated to the delegate method, allowing for graceful error handling and recovery.
Actual Behavior
The application crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS when the Swift runtime attempts to process the error in swift_getErrorValue.

Before the crash, we observed this error message in the console:
[ERROR] *****SCStream*****RemoteAudioQueueOperationHandlerWithError:1015 Error received from the remote queue -16665
Additional Context
The issue occurs consistently after approximately 3-4 successful audio segment recordings of 60 seconds each
Commenting out custom segment rotation logic does not prevent the crash
The crash involves XPC communication with Apple's ReplayKit daemon
The error appears to be corrupted or malformed when crossing the XPC boundary
Workarounds Attempted
Added proper thread safety for all published properties using DispatchQueue.main.async
Implemented more robust error handling in the delegate methods
None of these approaches prevented the crash since it occurs at the Swift runtime level before our code executes.
Impact
This issue prevents reliable long-duration audio capture using ScreenCaptureKit.
This bug significantly limits the usefulness of ScreenCaptureKit for any application requiring continuous system audio capture for more than a few minutes.
Perhaps this issue might be related to a macOS bug where the system dialog indicates that the screen is being shared, even though nothing is actually being shared. Moreover, when attempting to stop sharing, nothing happens.
I have a SwiftUI app - (https://youtu.be/VbAfUk_eYl0?si=JxUBh0Bpb-vc1E1U) - which I thought was almost ready for release - a manager for airdropped audio files from Logic Pro or other music creation applications. It uses AVAudioEngine and AVAudioPlayerNode to play audio, and the MediaPlayer API to integrate with car audio and similar, all of which works well.
It does not currently have an explicit CarPlay integration (and I'm slightly horrified at the amount of work that is going to require).
I had the good or bad luck of getting a loaner car with carplay while mine is being repaired yesterday, and lo and behold, when connected to the vehicle via CarPlay, there is no audio output in the vehicle at all. The now playing panel correctly shows the information my app provides about the currently playing song; the player node believes it is playing, the AVAudioSession is configured as it should be. But there is no sound.
Obviously I cannot ship it in this state.
I've tried fiddling with the parameters the AVAudioSession is configured with, in case there was some parameter that was preventing audio output, to no avail - currently:
var options = AVAudioSession.CategoryOptions()
options.insert(.allowAirPlay)
options.insert(.allowBluetooth)
options.insert(.allowBluetoothA2DP)
try session.setCategory(.playback, mode: .default, options: options)
try? session.setPreferredIOBufferDuration(0.002) // ~96 samples at 44.1kHz
try? session.setPrefersNoInterruptionsFromSystemAlerts(true)
try? session.setPrefersInterruptionOnRouteDisconnect(false)
try session.setActive(true, options: [.notifyOthersOnDeactivation])
All diagnostics within the app show the player operating correctly - files are played and flushed; AVAudioPlayerNodeCompletionCallbacks are called when they should be. But the output is not audible in the vehicle.
I would much prefer to ship this app without full-blown CarPlay integration, but with working audio when connected via CarPlay, and work on full CarPlay integration for the next release.
Is there some secret handshake I am just missing to make this work?
I'm using the new SpeechAnalyzer framework to detect certain commands and want to improve accuracy by giving context. Seems like AnalysisContext is the solution for this, but couldn't find any usage example. So I want to make sure that I'm doing it right or not.
let context = AnalysisContext()
context.contextualStrings = [
AnalysisContext.ContextualStringsTag("commands"): [
"set speed level",
"set jump level",
"increase speed",
"decrease speed",
...
],
AnalysisContext.ContextualStringsTag("vocabulary"): [
"speed", "jump", ...
]
]
try await analyzer.setContext(context)
With this implementation, it still gives outputs like "Set some speed level", "It's speed level", etc.
Also, is it possible to make it expect number after those commands, in order to eliminate results like "set some speed level to" (instead of two).
I might have misunderstood the docs, but is Call Translation going to be available for VOIP applications? Eg in an already connected VOIP call, would it be possible for Call Translations to be enabled on an iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence supported device?
I have personally tried it and it doesn’t look like it supported VOIP but would love to confirm this.

The AVB AVnu MILAN Convention has a groweing Population. Many big companies (Cisco, Meyer Sound, d&b Audio, l‘acoustics, Presonus, digico etc.) implements the AVB AVnu Milan Standards. Is there a plan on the Apple side to also implement AVnu Milan on top of the AVB Protocol?
The advantage for Apple Sound would be a great Integration in the professionell Audio market and a more stable intergration on top of the AVB protocol. The atdecc work, but Not that stable.

I work on an iOS app that records video and audio. We've been getting reports for a while from users who are experiencing their video recordings being cut off. After investigating, I found that many users are receiving the AVAudioSessionMediaServicesWereResetNotification (.mediaServicesWereResetNotification) notification while recording. It's associated with the AVFoundationErrorDomain[-11819] error, which seems to indicate that the system audio daemon crashed. We have a handler registered to end the recording, show the user a prompt, and restart our AV sessions. However, from our logs this looks to be happening to hundreds of users every day and it's not an ideal user experience, so I would like to figure out why this is happening and if it's due to something that we're doing wrong.
The debug menu option to trigger the audio session reset is not of much use, because it can't be triggered unless you leave the app and go to system settings. So our app can't be recording video when the debug reset is triggered. So far I haven't found a way to reproduced the issue locally, but I can see that it's happening to users from logs.
I've found some posts online from developers experiencing similar issues, but none of them seem to directly address our issue. The system error doesn't include a userInfo dictionary, and as far as I can tell it's a system daemon crash so any logs would need to be captured from the OS.
Is there any way that I could get more information about what may be causing this error that I may have missed?

Is there a way to permanently disable PHASE SDK logging? It seems to be a lot chattier than Apple's other SDKs.
While developing a RealityKit app that uses AudioPlaybackController, I must manually hide the PHASE SDK log output several times each day so I can see my app's log messages.
Thank you.
I need to implement a solution through an API or custom driver to completely block out the built-in speakers and microphone of Mac, because I need other apps to use specified external devices as audio input and output. Is there a way to achieve this requirement? What I mean is that even in system preferences, it should not be possible to choose the built-in microphone and speakers; only my external device can be used.
On Apple TV 4K 3rd generation, with tvOS 26 beta 2, when two HomePod 2 are paired to the device, music and movie sources with Dolby Atmos can only be listened to in stereo. dolby atmos not supported

Audio
Hello everyone,
I’m new to Swift development and have been working on an audio module that plays a specific sound at regular intervals - similar to a workout timer that signals switching exercises every few minutes.
Following AVFoundation documentation, I’m configuring my audio session like this:
let session = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance()
try session.setCategory(
.playback,
mode: .default,
options: [.interruptSpokenAudioAndMixWithOthers, .duckOthers]
)
self.engine.attach(self.player)
self.engine.connect(self.player, to: self.engine.outputNode, format: self.audioFormat)
try? session.setActive(true)
When it’s time to play cues, I schedule playback on a DispatchQueue:
// scheduleAudio uses DispatchQueue
self.scheduleAudio(at: interval.start) {
do {
try audio.engine.start()
audio.node.play()
for sample in interval.samples {
audio.node.scheduleBuffer(sample.buffer, at: AVAudioTime(hostTime: sample.hostTime))
}
} catch {
print("Audio activation failed: \(error)")
}
}
This works perfectly in the foreground. But once the app goes into the background, the scheduled callback runs, yet the audio engine fails to start, resulting in an error with code 561015905.
Interestingly, if the app is already playing audio before going to the background, the scheduled sounds continue to play as expected.
I have added the required background audio mode to my Info plist file by including the key UIBackgroundModes with the value audio.
Is there anything else I should configure? What is the best practice to play periodic audio when the app runs in the background? How do apps like turn-by-turn navigation handle continuous audio playback in the background?
Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
The device is connected to Bluetooth A and Bluetooth B, currently the audio is played through Bluetooth A, click the interface button, how to realize the code to switch to Bluetooth B?
Environment→ ・Device: iPad 10th generation ・OS:**iOS18.3.2
I'm using AVAudioSession to record sound in my application. But I recently came to realize that when the app starts a recording session on a tablet, OS automatically sets the tablet volume to 50% and when after recording ends, it doesn't change back to the previous volume level before starting the recording. So I would like to know whether this is an OS default behavior or a bug?
If it's a default behavior, I much appreciate if I can get a link to the documentation.
Since MacOS 26 Apple Music has inconsitent drops to the Quality of some Tracks indiscrimantly. I don't know if others Expereinced it. It doesn't happen on the Speakers or connected via Bluetooth, but the AUX I/O has it quite often. It is more noticable on Headphones with 48kHz and higher Frequency Bandwidth.
Here is the FB18062589
I have sent in a feedback report (FB18222398) but I have no idea if anyone has looked at it. I know from past experiences that Apple devs do look at these forums.
This applies to each of the betas, 1, 2 and 3. I have created a new Personal Voice with each beta. I create a personal voice in English. When it's done processing, I tap Preview and it says in English what is expected. But after some time, an hour or a day, the language of the voice file changes languages and no longer works properly. If I press Preview it is no longer intelligible. I have a text to speech app and initially the created voice works but then when the language of the file changes, it no longer works. I have run an app on my iphone through Xcode that prints to the console the voices installed on the device with the language. Currently this is the voice file:
Voice Identifier: com.apple.speech.personalvoice.AAA9C6F2-9125-475F-BA2F-22C63274991D
Language: es-MX
and on a second device the same personal voice is in a different language:
Voice Identifier: com.apple.speech.personalvoice.AAA9C6F2-9125-475F-BA2F-22C63274991D
Language: zh-CN
Although, a previous personal voice file that listed as Spanish-Mexican played in English with a Spanish accent or when playing Spanish text, it sounded almost perfect. This current personal voice doesn't do that, and is unintelligible. Previous attempts have converted to Chinese.
I hope someone can look into this.
