A Summary of the WWDC25 Group Lab - Developer Tools
At WWDC25 we launched a new type of Lab event for the developer community - Group Labs. A Group Lab is a panel Q&A designed for a large audience of developers. Group Labs are a unique opportunity for the community to submit questions directly to a panel of Apple engineers and designers. Here are the highlights from the WWDC25 Group Lab for Developer Tools. Will my project codebase be used for training when I use Xcode's intelligent assistant powered by cloud-based models? When using ChatGPT without logging in, your data will not be used to improve any models. If you log in to a ChatGPT account, this is based on your ChatGPT account settings, which allows you to opt-out (it defaults to on). When using Xcode with accounts for other model providers, you should check with the policies of your provider. And finally, at no point will any portion of your codebase be used to train or improve any Apple models. We'd love to make our SwiftUI Previews (and soon, Playgrounds) as snappy as possible. Is there any way to skip certain build steps, such as running linters? It seems the build environment is exactly the same (compared to a debug build), but maybe there's a trick. Starting with Xcode 16, SwiftUI previews use the exact same build artifacts as the regular build. The new Playgrounds support in Xcode 26 uses these build artifacts too. Shell script build phases are the most common thing that introduces extra build time, so as a first step, try turning off all shell script build phases (like linters) to get an idea if that’s the issue. If those build phases add significant time to your build, consider moving some of those phases into asynchronous steps, such as running linters before committing instead of on every build. If you do need a shell script build phase to run during your build, make sure to explicitly define the input and output files, as that is a huge way to improve your build performance. Are we able to provide additional context for the models, like coding standards? Documentation for third party dependencies? Documentation on your own codebase that explains things like architecture and more? In general, Xcode will automatically search for the right context based on the question and the evolving answer, as the model can interact multiple times with your project as it develops an answer. This will automatically pick up the coding style of the code it sees, and can include files that contain architecture comments, etc. Beyond automatic context, you can manually attach other documents, even if they aren't in your project. For example, you could make a file with rules and ideas and attach it, and it will influence the response. We are very aware of other kinds of automatic context like rule files, etc, though Xcode does not support these at this time. Once ChatGPT is enabled for Coding Intelligence in Xcode 26, and I sign into my existing ChatGPT account, will the ChatGPT Coding Intelligence model in Xcode know about chat conversations on Xcode development done previously in the ChatGPT Mac app? Xcode does not use information from other conversations, and conversations started in Xcode are not accessible in the web UI or ChatGPT app. Is there a plan to make SwiftUI views easier to locate and understand in the view hierarchy like UIKit views? SwiftUI uses a declarative paradigm to define your user interface. That allows you to specify what you want, with the system translating that into an efficient representation at runtime. Unlike traditional AppKit and UIKit, seeing the runtime representation of SwiftUI views isn't sufficient in order to understand why it's not doing what you want. This year, we introduced a SwiftUI Instrument that shows why things are happening, like view re-rendering. Is it possible to use the AI chat with ChatGPT Enterprise? My company doesn't allow us to use the general ChatGPT, only the enterprise version they have setup that prevents data from being leaked Yes, Xcode 26 supports logging into any existing ChatGPT account, including enterprise accounts. If that does not meet your needs, you can also setup a local server that implements the popular chat completions REST API to talk to your enterprise account how you need. Now that Icon Composer is here, how does it complement or replace existing vector design tools such as Sketch for icon design? Icon Composer complements your existing vector design tools. You should continue to create your shapes, gradients, and layers in another tool like Sketch, and compose the exported SVG layers in Icon Composer. Once you bring your layers into Icon Composer, you can then use it to influence the translucency, blur, and specular highlights for your icon. What’s one feature or improvement in the new Xcode that you personally think developers will love, but might not immediately discover? Maybe something tucked away or quietly powerful that’s flown under the radar so far? One feature we're particularly excited about is the new power profiler for iOS, which gives you further insights into the energy consumption of your app beyond what was possible with the energy instrument previously. You can learn more about how to use this instrument and how it can help you greatly reduce your apps battery usage in the documentation, as well as the session Profile and optimize power usage in your app. There were also improvements in accessibility this year with Voice Control, where you can naturally speak your Swift code to Xcode, and it understands the Swift syntax as you speak. To see it in action, take a look at the demonstration in What’s new in Xcode 26. We have a software advisory council that is very sensitive to having our private information going to the cloud in any form. What information do you have to help me guide Xcode and Apple Intelligence through the acceptance process? One thing you can do is configure a proxy for your enterprise that implementing the popular Chat Completions API endpoint protocol. When using a model provider via URL, you can use your proxy endpoint to inspect the network traffic for anything that you do not want sent outside of your enterprise, and then forward the traffic through the proxy to your chosen model provider. Are there list of recommended LLMs to use with Xcode via Intelligence/Local? I've tried Gemma3-12B, but.. I hope there are better options? Apple doesn't have a published list of recommended local models. This is a fast-moving space, and so a recommendation would become out of date very quickly as new models are released. We encourage you to try out the local model support in Xcode 26 with models that you find meet your needs, and let us and the community know! (continued below)

Very hard Watch communication after update of Xcode, MacOs, Watch OS ?
I have a swift project with a Watch companion. Since the update of Xcode in 16.3 version after updating MAcOs , Watch OS, iOS to the latest version . It is quasi impossible for me to make Xcode work with my series 10 Watch. I have a lot of alert box, messages in the "device & Simulator" tool like this Previous preparation error: A connection to this device could not be established.; Timed out while attempting to establish tunnel using negotiated network parameters. And many message telling me that Xcode is preparing the Watch , then that it has lost the connexion. I have to wait some minutes after EACH run of the App to test it again. This is very annoying . Some of the alerts I have : And the best to know , is that I can run the APP outside of Xcode , it works, Connects to the iPhone, fetch data and so. the iPhone sees the Watch without and problem. Reboots can solve for a few minutes the problem. But that is not a solution.

Why can't I see the version I built on TestFlight
After developing the IOS app using XCode, I https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/identifiers/list Created Identifiers (HanBaoAI) and locally created Certificate SigningRequest.certSigningRequest https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/certificates/list Created Certificates (Expiry Date 2026/04/21) and also created profiles (HanBaoAI, Expires 2026/04/21), and then https://appstoreconnect.apple.com/apps I created an app (HanBaoAI) and uploaded it to the official website using Product Archive in xcode. The upload was successful, but the official website's testflight showed 1 (processing). When I refreshed the page, there was no information in testflight. May I ask what the reason is? How to solve it? Please provide complete and detailed solution steps.

NSE Filtering Entitlement Rejected Repeatedly – Seeking Advice & Possible Solutions
Hi everyone, I’m facing a major roadblock with my family location tracking app, and I need some advice or guidance from the community. Background Back in 2021, I implemented NSE filtering entitlement to send location-based notifications and retrieve the device's location in return (as suggested by Apple’s technical code support). Over time, I built my app around this entitlement, adding many features that depend on it. When Location Push Service Extension was introduced for iOS 15+, I adapted accordingly: NSE filtering was used for devices below iOS 15 Location Push Service Extension was used for iOS 15+ NSE filtering also played a crucial role in: ✅ Accepting/rejecting location-based notifications ✅ Checking device settings & location permissions (since location push won’t work without proper permissions) The Issue In November 2024, I created a new developer account to change my business entity. Since then, I’ve been requesting the NSE entitlement repeatedly for four months, but Apple keeps rejecting it. Meanwhile, they approved the Location Push Entitlement, but without NSE filtering, I’m forced to rewrite a huge part of my app’s core functionality. I’ve sent multiple emails explaining my use case, but I keep getting rejected without any clear explanation or workaround. My Ask Has anyone faced a similar issue with NSE entitlement? Are there any alternative approaches to achieve the same functionality? Any advice on how to escalate this to Apple or get proper feedback on why it's being rejected? I’ve invested years into this app, and a forced rewrite would take months. Any help, insights, or contacts who could assist would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! 🙏

Why Must All Attributes in a Composite Type Be Optional?
I recently encountered an issue involving Core Data’s new Composite Attributes feature and thought I would share my experience, as well as seek clarification. I created a composite type where all attributes were mandatory, except for one. Subsequently, I added an attribute to an entity and set its type to that composite type. Upon running the app, the console output the following error: CoreData: error: CoreData: error: Row (pk = 85) for entity ‘(EntityName)’ is missing mandatory text data for property ‘(propertyName)’ The way I resolved this was by removing the composite type attribute from the entity, after which the error no longer appeared. I also observed that in another entity, where a different composite type is used, all the attributes were optional — and no error occurred. This raises the question: why must all attributes in a composite type be optional? Furthermore, why does Xcode not inform the developer of this requirement? I have reviewed both the documentation and the WWDC23 “What’s New in Core Data” session, but neither mentions that having non-optional attributes within a composite type will cause such errors and lead to unpredictable application behaviour. Additionally, this issue remains unresolved in another area I raised previously in this topic: Composite Attributes feature requires tvOS deployment target 17.0 or later Composite Attributes feature requires watchOS deployment target 10.0 or later However, I do not have a tvOS or watchOS target, nor do I intend to add one. Could someone from Apple, or anyone with more experience, please clarify why all attributes within a composite type must be optional? And could it be possible for Xcode to flag this at compile time, rather than failing at runtime? Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to set the Derived Data location differently for different projects?
Within Xcode's settings location section is a drop down menu to switch between setting the derived data location to be default, relative or custom. However its a global setting. I work on more than one project simultaneously, and for one of them I want the location set to relative, but default for all the others. Is there any way of achieving that?

unsupported option '-G' for target 'arm64-apple-ios12.0'
I had an Intel macbook and I used that to build and release my app to app store but I didn't release for 2 years. Recently a bug was reported that I needed to update the a code and make a new release with my apple silicon macbook. But I get this issue when I go to Product -> Archive. I tried updating pods, as well as adding following line to the Podfile but no change. platform :ios, "12.0" target "myApp" do use_frameworks! pod "AFNetworking" pod "KVNProgress" pod "GCDWebServer" pod "CocoaLumberjack" pod "Intercom" pod "GoogleWebRTC" pod "SAMKeychain" pod "googleapis", :path => '.' pod 'gRPC', '1.0.0' pod 'gRPC-Core', '1.0.0' pod 'gRPC-ProtoRPC', '1.0.0' pod 'gRPC-RxLibrary', '1.0.0' pod 'BoringSSL-GRPC', '0.0.7' end post_install do |installer| installer.pods_project.targets.each do |target| if target.name == 'BoringSSL-GRPC' target.source_build_phase.files.each do |file| if file.settings && file.settings['COMPILER_FLAGS'] flags = file.settings['COMPILER_FLAGS'].split flags.reject! { |flag| flag == '-GCC_WARN_INHIBIT_ALL_WARNINGS' } file.settings['COMPILER_FLAGS'] = flags.join(' ') end end end end end Nothing worked for me. What do I do now? I appreciate any help

Xcode crash reports from TestFlight
My application is in flightTest mode. I received my first two crash reports in XCODE /Organizer. The context is well described, and I was able to isolate the locations where very serious errors occurred. My application is connected. I'm missing one piece of data in this crash report: the time of the crash. This will help me see what (in my case) static data was being read on the data server at that time. This will help me investigate. Is it possible to obtain this information?

Unity (IL2CPP) iOS Build: "_placeGeoAnchor" Undefined Symbol for Architecture arm64
Hi all, I’m running into a persistent linker error when building my Unity 6 project (IL2CPP, iOS target) that calls a Swift method via an Objective-C++ wrapper. Despite following all known steps, I keep getting: Undefined symbols for architecture arm64: "_placeGeoAnchor", referenced from: _GeoAnchorTrigger_placeGeoAnchor in libGameAssembly.a ... ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture arm64 I’m trying to place a persistent AR anchor at real-world GPS coordinates (so that the same asset can appear at the same location for a returning user). Since I’m targeting iOS, I can’t use Google’s geospatial anchors (but I sooo wish I could--please apple I beg of you stop being so selfish lol). I've already done these things: Swift file is added to Unity-iPhone target. .mm and .h files are in Unity-iPhone target under Compile Sources. Bridging header is set to Unity-iPhone-Bridging-Header.h. Generated header name is correct (GeoTest-Swift.h). Build Active Architecture Only set to No. Function has attribute((visibility("default"))). Unity project uses IL2CPP scripting backend. Yet I'm still getting the same linker error — it appears Unity (via IL2CPP) references the function, but Xcode doesn't link it. It’s something small that’s being missed with how IL2CPP links native symbols? Or maybe I need to explicitly include something in Link Binary With Libraries? I’ve verified symbol visibility and targets repeatedly. I’ve built AR features in Unity before (for Quest), but this is my first time trying to bridge C# → Objective-C++ → Swift in this way for a geolocation-based AR anchor for an iphone. I'm going crazy, I’ve been stuck on this for 12+ hours now, so any insight or nudge would be deeply appreciated. SPECS: Macbook Pro M4 Pro--Sequoia 15.4 Unity 6000.0.45f1 IPhone 11 iOS 18.4 Xcode 15

Xcode26 beta.2 build error
I am writing to report multiple issues encountered after updating to Xcode 26 Beta, which have significantly impacted my project's compilation and functionality. My project can run normally in Xcode16.3 version, Below are the specific problems, along with the steps I took to address them and the subsequent errors that arose: Symbol Not Found Error for _NSUserActivityTypeBrowsingWeb After updating to Xcode 26 Beta, my project failed to build with the error: "Symbol not found: _NSUserActivityTypeBrowsingWeb." To resolve this, I removed the MobileCoreServices framework from the Build Settings, as it appeared to be related. However, this led to a new error, indicating that this change introduced further complications. Clang++ Error: No Such File or Directory 'OpenGLES' Following the resolution of the first issue, I encountered a new error: "iOS clang++: error: no such file or directory: 'OpenGLES'." To address this, I added the OpenGLES.framework to the Build Phases. While this resolved the clang++ error, it triggered additional errors, suggesting that the underlying issue persists or new dependencies are conflicting. Recurring XIB File Compilation Errors My project uses XIB files, and every time I attempt to compile and run, Xcode reports errors related to different XIB files. Notably, when I open the reported XIB file, no errors are displayed within the Interface Builder. After saving or inspecting the file, the compilation error temporarily disappears, only for another XIB file to trigger the same issue in the next build. This creates a repetitive cycle. I have confirmed this is not a caching issue, as I clean the build cache (Product > Clean Build Folder) before each run. If I skip cleaning the cache, the OpenGLES-related error (Issue 2) reappears, indicating potential interactions between these problems. These issues have made development with Xcode 26 Beta extremely challenging, as each attempted fix seems to introduce new errors, and the XIB issue creates a persistent loop. My setup includes: Xcode Version: 26.0 beta 2 (17A5241o) macOS Version:15.4.1 (24E263)

How to setup a directory in Xcode project 16.2
the Xcode Version 16.2 (16C5032a), I want to know how to setup a directory in Xcode project when develop the iOS app. Here is the whole thing: I start a new iOS App project "test_path". then I right click, and choose "New Folder", to make a new folder "configx" then I right click on the configx folder, and choose the "add files to test_path", add a file in it But the folder does not exist in the project when try to access by "Bundle.main.urls" func. 5. when ls in the Mac, /data/Containers/Bundle/Application/E4F11903-3FAD-467F-A4CD-60AC68D64934/test_path.app, the file just at the root path of test_path.app, no "configx" folder ahead the file. so, how to setup a directory or a path in iOS project?

Unable to apply stashed changes
I am trying to perform an unstash operation. I RC on the stash to restore, select "Apply Stashed Changes". It then launches a comparison window to allow me to cherrypick the changes I want to include. However, the button along the bottom, "Apply Changes" is grayed out and remains so no matter what I do. Switching stashes, exiting and restarting xcode. TG i made an emergency project backup right before I did the stash, just for a case like this. Bug? Feature?

How can you have a framework which uses a 3rd party dependency and an app that uses the framework and also the same dependency?
Is this setup possible / have a solution: There is a .xcframework F, which uses a 3rd party library, lets call it L. There is an app which uses the xcframework The app also uses L Both the app and F use SPM to integrate L F is using L for its own internal purposes. F is providing some functionality to the app. How it implements that ideally should be a black box from the app's perspective. The app also happens to use L for its own purposes. I can't get this set up working, always get warnings about duplicate symbols when running the App. This will presumably be due to the fact there are separate copies of L in both F and A. So how can that be eliminated? Can F not statically like to L and use the App's version of L at runtime? If so how can Xcode be configured so that F can actually compile? Or vice versa - can the App not statically link in its own copy of L and use that in the framework? If so, similar questions, how to configure Xcode to set this up? I can't believe this is an obscure use case, yet after days of searching and reading documentation I can't find any solution. Note that I was able to get this going when the app and the framework used Cocoapods to integrate L, but I just can't do similarly if the use of Cocoapods is replaced with SMP. When using cocoapods, within the frameworks Xcode section, the pods framework is set to Do Not Embed. This is probably the vital difference between the working Cocoapods implementation and the not working SPM solution. However, when using SPM Xcode doesn't present any option to either embed nor not embed the dependency. Why not? Can it somehow be set to not embed?

"package" documents on iCloud Drive don't work in Simulator
Running macOS 15.4.1, Simulator 16.0 (1042.1), various iOS devices (iPhone 16, iPad 13" M4) I log into iCloud and enable iCloud Drive. Running the Files app, I noticed that I can click on "flat" documents (PDF, JPEG, etc) and they work. However, when I click on "package" documents (e.g. represented by a directory behind the scenes), I get a normal download progress, but then an alert "The operation could not be completed. No such file or directory". This seems to happen with all package documents, e.g. Keynote documents or Reality Composer objcap documents. It does not happen on actual devices logged into the same account. I've tried completely deleting and rebuilding the simulator instances in question, with no success.

SchemeBuildError: Failed to build the scheme
I have an iOS app, and I am trying to add a companion WatchOS app. My iOS app depends on 2 libraries: GoogleMobileAds FirebaseAnalyticsWithoutAdIdSupport When I add a new target for WatchOS, the preview build starts to fail. I am not adding any libraries to WatchOS. The Google Ads and Firebase Analytics libs are only under the iOS target. I am unable to run the preview, I get an error when trying to build the watch scheme. The preview does not work. The build just crashes. I've included the error log below. Xcode 16.1 hang after adding Store Kit configuration
I don't know Xcode very well, and had been using it sporadically to test a project exported from Unity. I recently added a StoreKit Configuration to the project, and since then it gives me ≈10s after launching before the beach ball appears, and it never leaves. Xcode says it is "Indexing" but I don't know if that's an obvious culprit. I can still build my project via the fastlane tool, on the command line, and the newly-added StoreKit configuration works just fine. But I cannot use Xcode interactively any more, unless I re-export the project from Unity. The only difference between it working and hanging is the Store Kit configuration. How do I understand what's going on, and (ideally) fix it? The Activity Monitor gives a bunch of backtraces that don't have an obvious network or I/O culprit in them.

xcode 16.3 now not selecting correct Signing Certificate with Automatically Manage Signing Selected
HI, I upgraded to macos 15.5 and xcode 16.3. Last year I was able to update one of my apps on the App Store without issues. Today, after a successful Testflight test, I now need to submit a new version of my app to the App Store for Distribution as the next version/build. However, when I configure a manual setting for the signing, I can select the correct choices. But when I click automatically manage signing, and choose the correct team, xcode put in the wrong signing certificate. It is choose a development one, and not the distribution one. I am concerned about this since I have read that when using the Archive tool, it choses the automatically manage signing by default. And that check box is selecting the "default" settings. I do not know where these default settings are being set, or how to fix this issue. I do not see any info in my searching up to this point. I hope someone can help. thank you, cc

Can I use ARGeoAnchor with simulated locations
I'm trying to evaluate if we can support AR navigation with MapKit. The feature is supposed to be available for users in US. I tried to run the sample on my iPhone: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/tracking-geographic-locations-in-ar?language=objc But I'm in a location that ARGeoTrackingConfiguration.checkAvailabilityWithCompletionHandler: always return false. I think ARGeoAnchor isn't supported in my location. I tried to use simulated locations by Adding a gpx file when launching the app. Enabling Xcode -> Debug -> Simulate Location -> New York, NY, US But the availability for ARGeoAnchor is still false. Is that possible for me to develop the ARGeoAnchor feature outside of the covered areas?
