Up until some point relatively recently, I have been able to use Safari's web inspector to connect to the iOS simulator in order to debug our web application in development at http://localhost:8088.
Now, the web inspector still OPENS, but it opens in a broken state. The context is available to select from Safari's "Develop" menu: Develop > "iPhone 16 Pro (Simulator)" > "localhost - login". It appears under the Safari heading if I have navigated to the web app in the browser, or under the Expo heading if I am accessing it through the webview in our React Native wrapper app. When I select it, the web inspector window does appear.
However, once it opens, the Elements pane is empty, the Console pane is empty, expressions entered into the console are not evaluated, there's no content in Sources, Network, Storage, etc.
Important notes:
This broken state happens at http://localhost:8088 as well as http://127.0.0.1:8088, and it seems that the insecure context is the issue.
The web inspector DOES work for HTTPS sites. If I navigate to, e.g., https://example.com in the simulator and connect the web inspector, everything works fine.
The web inspector also works fine in Safari on macOS (OUTSIDE the simulator) when accessing non-HTTPS sites. It's only a problem for non-HTTPS sites when connecting to the simulator.
A coworker has the same problem, so it is not isolated to my machine.
I would enable TLS locally as a workaround, but this web app is very complex, and I know from experience that it is very difficult for various reasons to set it up properly for our project in development, and it will take significant non-trivial work to do so.
So... Why is this happening? Is this expected behavior? Is there a way that I can debug my site on localhost without HTTPS?
Is anyone else getting new warning about menu items with submenus when running on Tahoe? I'm getting big performance problems using my menu as well as seeing these messages and I'm wondering if there's a connection.
My app is faceless with a NSStatusItem with an NSMenu. Specifically it's my own subclass of NSMenu where I have a lot of code to manage the menu's dynamic behavior. This code is directly in the menu subclass instead of in a controller because the app I forked had it this way, a little wacky but I don't see it being a problem. A nib defines the contents of the menu, and it's instantiated manually with code like:

My_StatusItem_App.AppMenu: 0x7f9570c1a440 is my menu belonging to the NSStatusItem, NSMenu: 0x6000034e5340 is the submenu of one of its menu items.
At a breakpoint in the NSMenu subclass's awakeFromNib I print self and see clear evidence of the warning's incorrectness. Below is a snippet of the console including the full warning, only edited for clarity and brevity. It shows on line 32 menu item with placeholder title "prototype batch item" that indeed has that submenu.

Is this seemingly incorrect inconsistency message harmless? Am I only grasping at straws to think it has some connection to the performance issues with this menu?
ASO often feels like a constant uphill battle for indie iOS devs - the rules keep shifting, results are unpredictable, and competing with big-budget apps can be discouraging.

I've recently installed 26.1 Beta 3 alongside stable 26.0.1
When building my app with 26.0.1 the final .ipa size is ~17mb, however after building my app with 26.1 Beta 3 the size has increased up to ~22mb
The main difference is Assets.car blowing from 1.1mb to 5.6mb (or 8.6mb if I include all icons settings). Upon examining I've found new liquid glass .icon file duplicating itself multiple times as png variants (any, dark, tinted, etc).
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
It seems to me that NSStagedMigrationManager has algorithmic issues. It doesn't perform staged migration, if all its stages are NSLightweightMigrationStage.
You can try it yourself. There is a test project with three model versions V1, V2, V3, V4. Migrating V1->V2 is compatible with lightweight migration, V2->V3, V3->V4 is also compatible, but V1->V3 is not. I have following output:

I think that staged migration should satisfy the following rules for two consecutive stages:
Any version of lightweight stage to any version of lightweight stage;
Any version of lightweight stage to current version of custom stage;
Next version of custom stage to any version of lightweight stage;
Next version of custom stage to current version of custom stage.
However, rule 1 doesn't work, because migration manager skips intermediate versions if they are inside lightweight stages, even different ones.
Note that lightweight[3, 4]->custom[1->2] doesn't work, lightweight[1,4]->custom[2->3] works, but custom[2->3]->lightweight[1,4] doesn't work again.
Would like to hear your opinion on that, especially, from Core Data team, if possible.

I recently released the first version of my app, and it was discoverable via App Store search. After pushing an update with bug fixes and improved keywords/category, the new version went live and showed as “Ready for Sale” within hours.
However, since the update, the app no longer appears in App Store search results - even when searched using its exact name. It’s still accessible through the direct link. Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I am trying to upgrade my app to use Xcode 26 and I cannot get my tests to launch.
I am trying to launch tests to the simulator, and I always get this error after 300 second timeout:
"encountered an error (The test runner hung before establishing connection.)"
There are no other errors getting logged.
I can run to the same simulator just fine, and in Xcode 16 the tests launch with no issues.
The tests also run fine on an actual iPhone.

Hi, I have been recently debugging the BGContinuedProcessingTask API and encountered some of the following issues. I hope you can provide some answers:
First, let me explain my understanding of this API. I believe its purpose is to allow an app to trigger tasks that can be represented with progress indicators and require a certain amount of time to complete.
After entering the background, these tasks can continue to be completed through the BGContinuedProcessingTask, preventing the system from terminating them before they are finished.
In the launchHandler of the registration process, we only need to do a few things:
Determine whether the actual business processing is still ongoing.
Update the progress, title, and subtitle.
Handle the expirationHandler.
Set the task as completed.
Here are some issues I encountered during my debugging process:
After I called register and submit, the BGContinuedProcessingTask could not be triggered. The return values from my API calls were all normal.
I tried different device models, and some could trigger the task normally, such as the 15 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max. However, there were also some models, such as the 17 Pro, 15 Pro, and 15, that could not trigger the task properly. Moreover, there was no additional error information to help locate the issue.
The background task failed unexpectedly, but my app was still running normally. As I mentioned above, my launchHandler only retrieves the actual business status and updates it.
If a background task fails unexpectedly while the app is still running normally, it can mislead users and degrade the user experience of the app.
Others have also mentioned the issue of inconsistent behavior on devices that do not support Dynamic Island. On devices that support Dynamic Island,
when a task is triggered in the foreground, the app does not immediately display a pop-up notification within the app. However, on devices that do not support Dynamic Island,
the app directly displays a pop-up notification within the app, and this notification does not disappear when switching between different screens within the same app.
The user needs to actively swipe up to dismiss it. I think this experience is too intrusive for users. I would like to know whether this will be maintained in the future or if there is a plan to fix it.
On devices that do not support Dynamic Island, using the beta version 26.1 of the system,
if the system is in dark mode but the app triggers a business interface in white, the pop-up notification will have the same color as the current page, making it difficult to read the content inside the pop-up.
Users can actively stop background tasks by using the stop button, or the system can also stop tasks automatically when resources are insufficient or when a task is abnormal.
However, according to the current API, all these actions are triggered through the expirationHandler.
Currently, there is no way to distinguish whether the task was stopped by the user, by the system due to resource insufficiency, or due to an abnormal task.
I would like to know whether there will be more information provided in the future to help distinguish these different scenarios.
I believe that the user experience issues mentioned in points 2 and 3 are the most important. Please help to answer the questions and concerns above. Thank you!
Can you confirm that if you launch an app in the U.S. (in the iOS store) that is you cannot select a specific state (i.e. Rhode Island, North Carolina etc.) to roll out your app? In other words when you launch your app in the U.S. it has to be for the entire country right?
Can someone please confirm that this is the case and has always been the case in any app store (i.e. Google Play and IOS)?

In MetricKit, a metric payload comes in with a time range which usually means it contains multiple launches/sessions. How can we relate things that will change between launches or sessions such as pid and lowPowerModeEnabled from the metadata. Will there be multiple payloads for each unique value or is there some other way to use this?

Hi, I'm investigating what looks like possibly nondeterministic behavior when linking large iOS app binaries. I do not have a concise reproduction of the issue yet, but am trying to hunt down possible leads. In particular, the problem appears to surface when invoking clang to link a binary and the resulting order of the 'branch island' instructions appears to be random each time the binary is linked (as shown by the link map output). I was wondering if anyone with insight into the linker's current implementation could shed light on whether that is expected, and if there is anything that can be done to prevent it. FWIW, it seems like it might be size-dependent as smaller app binaries don't appear to exhibit the same behavior. I'd be glad to share more specifics and hopefully a reproduction if I can ever find one eventually. Some environment info (Xcode 16.4 toolchain):

Since the beta releases of iPadOS 26 we have been having some crashes about
Invalid parameter not satisfying: parentEnvironment != nil
We got to contact a couple of users and we found out that the crash appears when entering a screen in a UINavigationController with the iPad device connected to a Magic Keyboard. If the device is not connected to the keyboard then nothing happens and everything works ok.
From our end we haven't managed to reproduce the crash so I am pasting part of the stacktrace if it can be of any help.

Hello,
I'm working on a game that features online multiplayer. The game is developed using Unity and Apple Unity plugins.
The "isUnderAge" property restricts the online multiplayer feature. Everything works as expected on all platforms (Mac, iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, and visionPro) except on Macs equipped with an Intel chip.
Using the same iCloud and GameCenter, with no restrictions enabled, "isUnderAge" returns false, as expected, but on Mac equipped with an Intel chip, it returns true.
Is there any restriction or compatibility issue with those chips? Is there a workaround?

I'm working on a screen recording app using ScreenCaptureKit and I've hit a strange issue. My app records the screen to an .mp4 file, and everything works perfectly until the .captureMicrophone is false
In this case, I get a valid, playable .mp4 file.
However, as soon as I try to enable the microphone by setting streamConfig.captureMicrophone = true, the recording seems to work, but the final .mp4 file is corrupted and cannot be played by QuickTime or any other player. This happens whether capturesAudio (app audio) is on or off.
I've already added the "Privacy - Microphone Usage Description" (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) to my Info.plist, so I don't think it's a permissions problem.
I have my logic split into a ScreenRecorder class that manages state and a CaptureEngine that handles the SCStream. Here is how I'm configuring my SCStream:

When I had the .captureMicrophone value to be false, I get a perfect .mp4 video playable everywhere, however, when its true, I am getting corrupted video which doesn't play at all :-
Any view that is content for the tabViewBottomAccessory API fails to retain its state as of the last couple of 26.1 betas (and RC). The loss of state happens (at least) when the currently selected tab is switched (filed as FB20901325).
